5 Time Stealers and Fixes to Help WAHMS Remain Focused and Productive

There are many things that can interfere in your daily production when you work at home. Knowing exactly what these things are that eat into your productivity, you can easily nip them in the bud and become a more productive worker. Below are five productivity killers WAHMS should be aware of and tips on how to remain balanced & focused, set limits, and use your time more wisely.

5 Time Management Problems and Solutions for WAHMS

1. Social networking. Sites like Twitter and Facebook suck up a lot of time because they are addictive and fun to be on. With all the wonderful applications on Facebook it’s easy to get carried away with building your farm or managing your restaurant, but what you need to do is take this energy and put it towards your home business. You will, however, want to allow a certain amount of time to network properly; that means engaging with other business people by sharing your business, answering questions etc. It is important to set yourself a timer and then once that time is up,  move on to your next task on your to-do list. This will prevent you from being sucked in to the engaging time sucking aspect of social networking!

2. Emails. Check your emails first thing in the morning. Deal with the most important ones first. You can then check your email during your downtime. Don’t leave chat programs running in the background even if you’ve set your status to “busy”. Someone is bound to get your attention.Keeping planned limits on email time will really help you remain focused.

3. Clutter. How many people do you know can function at 100% in disarray? There may be some, but for many being organized is a top priority to being productive. Time is wasted if you can’t find what you’re looking for on your desk or in your filing cabinet. Clean up at the end of day, everyday and remove clutter.

4. Procrastination. This is a huge production killer. Instead of avoiding that difficult task, take it by the horns and work through it or outsource your work to a Virtual Assistant. Focus on your task and take action and do it today.

5. Kids…er…being a MOM. Our little ones…and big ones for that matter can be a major distraction especially if they are young and they need your attention. You may have to invest in a sitter or have an older sibling look after the younger ones while you work. Often times, you can work your schedule around your family needs, but unexpected things can happen so don’t overbook your calendar.

Avoid these time stealers, tailor these WAHM tips to your needs, and you’ll soon find you’ll get more done during the day.
